blue lakes, crossing several streams & the untamed Bigfork River.

View wildlife along or just off
Highway 38 on back roads here in the Edge of the Wilderness.

area teams with wildlife including waterfowl, deer, bear, otter,
beaver,
porcupine, fox, coyote, timber wolves, lynx, bobcats, & occasionally moose.
Birding enthusiasts find many of Minnesota's most
sought-after birds right outside their cabins.
We
are home to the largest concentration of bald eagles & loons in the
continental USA.

friendly Marcell, Grand Rapids, Bigfork, & Effie you’ll find
great
shopping in unique gift & antique shops,& stores both large &
small.
Nothing
like a meal of fresh fried fish, but while you’re here,
make
sure you treat yourself to a hardy meal at one of the area’s fine
eating
establishments, or play a round of golf at several
challenging area courses.

community park has a paved walking & rollerblade trail, tennis courts,
softball field,
horse shoes, playground equipment, informational
kiosk, & picnic grounds.

Marcell
has a newly opened medical clinic, just 5 minutes from Big Timber.

3 miles north of Big Timber in Marcell is the
“Edge
of the Wilderness Discovery Center”.
At the Discovery Center, you can learn
about wildlife,
history,
obtain maps & gifts, fishing information, and more.

Forest History Center … Visit a turn of the
century northern Minnesota logging camp
where
you can explore interpretive trails, climb the fire tower, interact with
knowledgeable
staff, & view museum exhibits showing the history of Minnesota forests
from ancient times to the present.
Chippewa National Forest’s Lost 40…
Explore this remote stand of virgin White
&
Red Pines which because of a surveying error, was never logged.
A
one-mile self-guided trail winds its way through these majestic 350 year old
pines.
The
Lost 40 is actually 144 acres!

Little American Falls… A beautiful waterfall
on the north flowing Bigfork River near Effie.
Bring
a picnic basket, camera, & your fishing pole as its good fishing just below
the falls.
Judy Garland’s Birthplace & Museum… Visit the house where ”Wizard of Oz”

Judy
Garland was born. A great
museum. Located in Grand Rapids.
Scenic State Park… With its pristine lakes & virgin
pines, this state park lives up to its name!
Scenic
has a wonderful swimming beach & an awesome hiking trail named the “Chase
Point Trail”
Located south of
Bigfork.
Suomi Hills… A primitive, non-motorized area set aside
within the Chippewa National Forest.
It
has 21 miles of trails & numerous small lakes.
Sort
of a miniature version of the Boudary Waters Canoe Area.
Suomi
Hills has gorgeous fall colors & good grouse hunting!
Located
a quick 10 minutes south of Big Timber.
Hill Annex Mine… The world’s largest
open pit iron mine. Open for tours.
Located
in Calumet, which is just east of Grand Rapids.
