We are Jon & Nancy Van Nurden, owners of Big Timber Resort.

We have owned & operated Big Timber since 1984, making 2010 our 27th year!

Over the years here at Big Timber, we have met many interesting people &

have shared fun times & wonderful memories with many of them.

Many people refer to Big Timber as their home away from home, a special place in the sun.

Big Timber is a wonderful place to get away to relax, to reflect, & to forget everyday problems.

Here you can get back in touch with yourself, your family, &

your friends while experiencing great fishing & nature at its best.

Big Timber is a place where good times & good memories are made amidst the beauty &

solitude of Minnesota's great North Woods, a place to come back to again & again.

Big Timber is small & uncrowded, & unlike larger resorts, you won’t be packed in a bunch of cabins.

We don’t have a campground, or an old swimming pool packed with kids.

What we do have are 7 very nice, clean, comfortable vacation cabins set in a park-like setting.

We have excellent fishing, lovely well-kept grounds, & a wonderful sandy beach.

Located where we are on the lake, you can actually see beautiful evening sunsets

& hear nature without the drone of generators & barking dogs, as we allow no pets.

Location on North Star Lake is very important, & being centrally located on the main body

of North Star Lake makes a quick, easy trip to any fishing spot, anywhere on the lake.

Should inclement weather develop, getting back to Big Timber is quick & easy.

No need to squeeze through a shallow channel getting back to a cabin

at the far end of the lake. Points both north & south of the resort protect our docks.

Big Timber was well laid out when built. Far enough from the highway to be without noise,

yet near enough to the highway for the convenience of going to & from town without traveling

long miles of dusty or muddy dirt roads.

Big Timber is located just off the “EDGE of the WILDERNESS” National Scenic Byway

(State Highway 38), only 5 minutes from Marcell & a 35 minute drive from Grand Rapids.

This is a trip that is worth your while, & if you come here just once,

you will be so delighted that you will spend many more vacations with us!
