Big
Timber is a very
nice smaller resort
with 7 clean, comfortable
vacation cabins set in a
park-like location
overlooking
beautiful North Star Lake in the heart of the Chippewa National Forest. Uncrowded
North Star Lake is a pristine, spring fed
1,052
acre lake which is 3 1/2 miles long x 1/2 mile wide with
varying depths down to 90’ & 18 miles of shoreline.
North
Star consists of many bays, points, islands & interesting underwater
structure.
The
lakeshore is mostly undeveloped with little boat traffic & surrounded by
National Forest land. There’s always a
quiet, calm spot to fish.
North
Star has excellent fishing & produces
nice baskets of Crappies, Bluegills & Rock Bass & is well known for
it’s trophy Muskies,
large
Northern Pike, Walleyes, Largemouth & Smallmouth Bass.
Kids
love fishing right off our docks for Bluegills & Perch.
North
Star’s clean, clear water is a fisherman’s paradise and a water-lover's dream.
We
offer free use of an Alumacraft boat OR a free dock space for your boat as well
as free use of our paddleboat & canoe when you stay with us.
We
rent outboard motors & pontoons with quiet running Honda outboards.
Big
Timber features lovely well-kept grounds, colorful sunsets, evening campfires,
an awesome kids playground, & a game room.
Big Timber has a wonderful sandy swimming area, with a
children’s water slide, swim raft, & chaise lounges.
Our 7 very nice vacation cabins
are comfortably
furnished with newer appliances, microwaves, coffee makers & house
wares.
We provide bed linens as well as patio chairs, picnic tables &
Weber grills.
Each cabin has a large picture window with a great view, a nice deck, gentle lake breezes & is freshly cleaned & ready for you when you arrive.

beauty & solitude of
Minnesota's great North Woods.

Location on North
Star Lake is very important, & being centrally located on the main body
of North Star
Lake makes a quick, easy trip to any fishing spot, anywhere on the lake.
Should inclement
weather develop, getting back to Big Timber is quick & easy.
No need to
squeeze through a shallow channel getting back to a cabin
at the far end of
the lake. Points both north & south
of the resort protect our docks.
Big
Timber was well laid out when built.
Far enough from the highway to be without noise,
yet
near enough to the highway for the convenience of going to & from town
without traveling
long miles of dusty or muddy dirt roads.

just off the “EDGE of the WILDERNESS” National Scenic Byway
(State Highway
38), only 5 minutes from Marcell & a 35 minute drive from Grand Rapids.
